BEFORE BOOKING
In the cockpit, pilots use checklists for two reasons: to avoid emergencies and to deal with them. When one strikes, the crew engages the whole team.
Travel professionals, we are facing a climate emergency, and you are valued crew. We need you on board.
Use this checklist whenever you book flights, brief clients, or design a travel experience. The demand is there: 93% of travellers want to make more sustainable choices.

Climate Emergency
The world is in a climate emergency, and that changes how all of us need to act. If you or your organisation signed the Glasgow Declaration, you’ve already taken this first step. This checklist is how you turn that intention into action.

DECLARE
Climate Impact
You can significantly reduce the climate impact of every flight just by making better choices. And carbon is only half the story: contrails and other non-CO2 effects roughly double a flight’s warming. Understanding both gives you the full picture.

UNDERSTAND
Ripple Effect
Your work directly shapes the flying behaviour of others. That is a superpower and a responsibility. Send the good kind of ripple: use your influence to make the lower-carbon option the appealing, normal choice, one booking at a time.

ACTIVATE
Honest Conversations
Talk about the climate impact of flying with your team, your colleagues, your boss, and your clients. Most travel professionals share these concerns. Very few are talking about them. Help break the silence.

INITIATE
Non-Flying Options
Always check whether there is a more climate-friendly way to get there. Avoiding even one flight is one of the highest-impact actions available to us, and a train or ferry often makes for a richer travel experience anyway. This applies during the trip too: try to avoid internal flights where possible.

ASSESS
Slow Travel
Fewer but longer trips produce lower per-day emissions and usually mean a better experience. Consider whether a minimum-length-of-stay policy could work for your organisation.

ENCOURAGE
Closer Destinations
Just 6% of flights, the long-haul ones over 4,000 km, produce around half of aviation’s CO2. Distance is the single biggest driver of impact.

RECOMMEND
Client Self-Booking
Do your clients book their own flights? Share our free Passenger Action Checklist, so they have the tools to find a better flight, or embed it into your communications flow.
